Not to meantion the fact that I’ve heard he is a nice guy. There are a lot of “good” artists out there who are complete jerks. I would always prefer a fan-friendly artist who sells, over a complete jerk who pleases the critics.

HAHAHA. i actually did a spit-take when i read this! very funny. and if any encounters with image alumni serve me well, i think they’d find it funny too. they’ve been known to talk a bit of smack and take the piss out of each other.

so who are the “KC and the sunshine band” and “Bay City Rollers” of comics?

Does “his Image gang members” mean the other 6 Image founders, or the people in Liefeld’s studio that he brought to the industry? Either way, it’s a staggeringly ill-informed and wrong statement, but with the latter, at least that’s somewhat defensible, as the only people I’d say don’t qualify for that statement are Todd Nauck and Jeff Matsuda.

Liefeld recalls, “We were finally close enough where he could divulge to me, like, oh, he goes, ‘Rob, the success you and your buddies had threatened all of us; it ticked us off. And, you know, you guys made us all look like old men, and uh, you kind of were a harbinger of a new generation.’”

Uh, sorry, but Loeb started writting comics in 1991 (his first published work was the Challengers of the Unknown, from that year), so when Image started a year later, why would Loeb feel like an old man – he was just getting into the business.

He recently bashed Alan Moore because he was interested in receiving more money for the comics he wrote. So? Comics are a business. Writing comics is a proffession and Moore (or anyone) is entitled to get paid for thier work and seek the highest compensation… or didn’t Leifield receive money for Heroes Reborn (rumored to be in the high 6-digit area).

So I really can’t give much credit to anything Leifield says.

that and the fact that he has no interest in drawing naked women, but gunblasts to the face and guys gutting each other are a-ok!

Glad to see there’s some constants in the world…

The fact that he’s doing his own version of a “Left Behind”-style sounds absolutely perfect for him. Once again people will buy his work entirely because of the hype around it and because it pushes the right buttons, completely independent of artistic or storytelling quality. And his persecution complex will mesh perfectly with that of the evangelical right regarding their place in the culture. I can already hear the complaints about this thing being slammed (and ignored by mainstream comix shops) because of its religious message, rather than because of its inevitable suckitude.
