Official accounts mention her “sci-fi” period.

Short, stout and a bit hard of hearing, Ms. Lessing was sharp and straightforward in her comments. After a few moments, she excused herself and went inside. “Now, I’m going to go in to answer my telephone,” she said. “I swear I’m going upstairs to find some suitable sentences which I will be using from now on.”

UPDATE: bict313 Doris Lessing wins Nobel PrizeWhile Lessing’s SF work is pretty well known, a Beat reader reminded us that she also wrote a graphic novel in 1995, called PLAYING THE GAME which was illustrated by Charlie Adlard, making him the only comics artist to work with both Robert Kirkman AND a Nobel Prize winner. Anyway you slice it, this is a win for our team!
