Neil Gaiman to direct DEATH movie with LaBeouf?

film ick has scoop:

Later this year – if all goes well – Neil Gaiman will be directing his first feature film. It’s an adaptation of his Death: The High Cost of Living mini-series, and – of course – he’s scripted it.

This was the film he was discussing with Guillermo del Toro at the meeting a couple of weeks back, as I suspected. I’ve now had this 100% confirmed.

What more do I know? That the film will most likely shoot in late autumn, early winter, and in the UK, though the comic takes place (mainly) in the US.

LaBeouf’s involvement geos back at least two years

Young actor Shia LaBeouf, who starred in Warner Bros. Constantine, told SCI FI Wire that he’s been working with graphic novel writer Neil Gaiman to bring his Death stories to life on the big screen.

  2. I love Neil Gaiman’s work but I don’t know if it’s a good idea to let him write the script. Mirror Mask was a beautiful movie, but the story was sooo boring.

Wow, ‘Death: The High Cost of Living’ as a film? It will have to be seen to be believed!

[...] Apparently a movie version of Neil Gaiman’s Death character is in the works.  According to Gaiman the movie will be based on the storyline of “Death: The High Cost of Living.”  I’d always wondered what a movie version of anything Sandman-related would look like, for some reason I always considered “Season of Mists” to be the novel probably most adaptable into a movie (at least in terms of being self-contained and relatively self-explanatory), but the possibility of a movie based on one of the other Endless hadn’t occurred to me.  Cons:  Shia LaBeouf possibly starring.  Pros:  Possible Tori Amos soundtrack; Gaiman directing, if only because it’s good to have the writer in control of the project.
