[...] Hancock’s big lesson for superhero movies: the first one doesn’t have to be an origin film. I’m pretty sure that the writers have a very clear idea of what/who Hancock is. The story is a bit of a mishmash. It didn’t really bother me, but, I don’t exactly take the most straightforward approach to life or narratives, either. I think that’s important about Hancock is that it shows you can enjoy a story about a superhero with nothing but hints about where he came from. These guys clearly disagree (though I agree with them about the dirty parts — cross your fingers for a remixed DVD). I have always thought Hollywood sweated the origins way too much. I know non-comics fans feel like they want to know the origins of characters, but I think they would still go see first movies that only hint to a character’s origin. I hope Hancock convinces Hollywood to relax about origins, because that means they might still make this Green Arrow movie, which is the best concept I’ve heard for a superhero movie yet. [...]

Goyer should write a Green Lantern script where he has his powers for the first five minutes of the film until he loses his ring and winds up on a desert island for the rest of the film. It’ll rock! It’ll be like Castaway, sort of, with a little bit of superhero shit thrown in, but just a little. Too much and it would look silly!

High Concept Origin for Green Arrow: Batman with a liberal viewpoint.
Ten minutes to show GA in action, ten to show him getting framed, ten to show courtroom and getting sent to Sing Sing.
Spin the second act as we realize that GA is locked up with supervillains. Rising action with maybe the Watchmen prison plotline as a template. Lots of violence, prison riot, maybe GA repents and helps someone escape with him.
Spin act three as Ollie discovers that he was set up by Bruce Wayne. GA is a copycat, Bats get GA out of the way, scandal sends Queenco stock tumbling, Wayne Enterprises acquires company. Big Fight, GA dies, no body found. Cut to mountain temple as GA becomes disciple of Ras Ah Gul.

Wow. Once again they are throwing out “possible” movies from DC while very few of them seem to actually be getting made because they are being overthought.

And this is pretty much saying they don’t have faith in the actual concept to the point of just turning it into a completely different idea just with similar names and powers.

Because it worked so well with the Birds of Prey television show…

I agree with the origin stories being a bit dull. Kudos to David Goyer on trying a different plot for introducing the main characters!

However, I sure hope the cons in jail all don’t look like the guys from “Con Air”. I hope they keep a comic feel by having some really freaky looking villains — people like Psimon or Warp from the Fearsome Five, or a gorilla crime boss. Characters that Jim Henson’s Creature Shop could go crazy with.

I wonder if anyone in prison will make fun of a guy named “Olliver Queen”?

If I had a magic 8-ball that predicted the whims of Hollywood, I would say this will not happen for obvious reasons (it being a Green Arrow movie being one of them, and it being a Green Arrow movie without Green Arrow in it being two). And if it does…why? Does Green Arrow even have any villains that would make this mildly interesting?

That’s just…odd. Considering how audiences went apeshit over the coolness of Legolas machine gun firing arrows in Lord of the Rings a few years ago, I’d have figured a straight-up Green Arrow movie would be a crowd pleaser. And hasn’t a certain fidelity to source material been serving comic movies well recently?

In fact, I think the guy who wrote OZ was supposed to write a Batman GN once long ago.
