200704011656 Captain Canuck dead? Can it be Canadian copy cats? Or just a seasonal disorder?:

Captain Canuck, Canada’s superhero, is fatally shot by a sniper in the latest issue of his eponymous comic, which arrived in stores yesterday. The assassination ends the guardian of the north’s fight for right, which began in 1975.

Captain Canuck, while heading to the Parliament Buildings, is shot and killed.

[snip]The decision to make the new Captain a woman polarized the superhero fan community. Captain America (whose true identity is Sally Maple) is a staunch feminist and fights for women’s rights and multiculturalism. Her adventures often lead her to interact with government officials and to petition the Canadian Parliament in Ottawa.

Hmm. The snippet seems to mention Captain America and not Captain Canuck. Just a slip of the tounge?

  2. Cameron Stewart says:

Fairly sure this is an April 1st gag.

  3. I second Mr. Stewart’s “fairly sure with” a “positively sure.”

  4. Rick Rottman says:

Do they have the month of April in Canada?

  5. No. In Canada our March goes 32 days. Then we start with April 2nd.

  6. Anonymous says:

Captain Canuck is not our Canadian national hero!
We want someone cooler for chrissake!

  7. Primate says:

I thought the Canadian national hero was Liz Patterson.

  8. Glenn Hauman says:

Yes, he’s dead, killed by Jose Luis Garcia Lopez for swiping. (See Batman/Hulk.)

  9. Aman,

I’m not entirely sure what that means. Are you referring to the fact that I do work under multiple names? And what does “release his Monster Cops” mean? Is that some sort of sexual inuendo? Are you hitting on me? That’s cool if you are. I just have no idea why your love for me continues in this fashion.
Also, are you Aman Gupta of Hobbystar fame? And if you’re not, why not?

Bah – the only time I give a fig about Canada is whenever a new Rush album comes out.

    Nah, it’s Belinda Stronach.

Canada’s national heroes are actually Margaret Atwood, Christian Bok and Anne Carson.

A very interesting website. I plan to access it again when I get home and have more time. There is much I need to look into here.
