[...] The Boys didn’t really registered on my consciousness until the controversial decision by DC to cancel it from its Wildstorm line, resulting in the book moving to Dynamite. While I’ve enjoyed Darick Robertson’s artwork in various places, I’ve not read much by Garth Ennis, who is probably best known for his series Preacher, which, well, I haven’t read. However, the brouhaha and a flip-through in the store made me decide to pick up the trade paperback, which collects the first 6 issues. [...]

1) I laughed out loud at the "Goran" line, Heidi!

2) Here's hoping the change of publishers (and presumably production staff) will trigger a reconsideration of the coloring on THE BOYS. Darick's ink work on this book has been so strong that it's been a continual frustration for me to find the colors so plastic and unappealing.

This was a really great interview, best Ennis one ive read since The Comics Journal did this all-out 15+ page one back in the days of Hitman and Preacher. Really glad to see him comment on City Lights as well as the Preacher TV subject.

I agree that his recent works (Punisher: Mother Russia, 303, etc) have been great as well, was worried he'd not get as much done after War Story and im glad i was wrong. Even Kev and Fury: Peacemaker were fun.

Ive never seen any of Ellroy's works, but will make a point to do so now. Also, im glad to see Robertson getitng love - he's a great guy, and i (now) love his work, from Transmet to his Wolverine stint, but he hoenstly wasnt getting the respect he desrved at Marvel, so if this deal + whatever he's got on his plate for DC turn that around, im happy for him.

PS i woulda asked him how he feels about Dillon cheating on him with Way, heh.

James Ellroy is our greatest living American writer. Now, if he'd just finish the Underworld USA trilogy!!!! And oh yeah, Pete Bondurant rules.

Black Dahlia, Big Nowhere, LA Confidential, My Dark Places, Clandestine...I could go on. Cold Six and Tabloid are very good, but they narrative takes a different turn...his voice changes. Still, I'll devour any Ellroy book and come back for seconds.

Have you seen the Black Dahlia movie? Not bad, but the DVD has some interesting extras, like Ellroy talking about his mom's death.

The Cold Six Thousand was such a let down for me. Ellroy's best work is still The Black Dahlia where you can really sense his love of the story that he's writing. I read it cover to cover on a flight back from Switzerland, and I suggest everyone read it.
