It’s possible that some of the more experienced hires will ensure that this initiative succeeds, but based upon Diamond’s efforts in the booksellers market to date, I’m holding off on betting money on it for the time being. It’s not that I think they’re destined to fail or anything — and goodness knows, a bookstore distributor willing to represent small publishers is always a worthy thing — but there’s been precious little evidence to date that the mostly ragtag line-up represented by Diamond has really benefited from new opportunities in the market in the same way as publishers with sharper, more experienced representation.
