Our Scream Awards viewing was interrupted by attending a real live event, the Quill Awards, honoring the best in books via voting by the reading public. To say it was slightly more erudite than the Scream Awards would be like saying Scarlett Johansson is comely. People quoted Melville and his initial sales figures. The event was held at the Museum of Natural History, and was so swanky that we expected a supervillain to bust through the glass ceiling at any minute. We spotted George R.R. Martin, Janet Evanovich, Anderson Cooper chatting with Chip Kidd, and Caroline Kennedy as well as comics, excuse me, GRAPHIC NOVEL nominees, Brian Fies (MOM’S CANCER), Abrams’ Charlie Kochman, Dark Horse’s Jeremy Adkins, and Viz president Hidemi Fukuhara, along with sr vp Lisa Coppola.

Viz was the winner in the Graphic Novel category for Masashi Kishimoto’s NARUTO #7. Here’s Fukuhara accepting.
