People notes: Shanower, Dawson

A super profile of Eric Shanower in today’s Daily News:

From the time he first had the idea in 1991 of synthesizing those works into one comprehensive storyline, it took five years of continuous research before Shanower even started writing his first script. It wasn’t until the next year that he started drawing his first panel, and a year later, in 1998, the first issue of “Age of Bronze” was published by Image Comics. It takes him an average of three months to churn out a single issue from soup to nuts – the San Diego native inks every line and letters every word himself.

At this rate, Shanower said he may not finish his tale before his 60th birthday. Which not only makes “Age of Bronze,” officially a “life’s work,” but also means his narrative of the Trojan War would take more than 15 years longer to complete than the reputed war itself.

Meanwhile, Rosario Dawson continues to embrace her inner geek:

Think you have geek cred? Think you know about comic books? Think you can out-geek Rosario Dawson?

Think again.

“Geek to me is a really exclusive, really particular type of club, and it’s been really nice to be included,” Dawson said. “To be called a geek so much lately has been kind of fascinating — I’ve always wanted to be a geek. [I love] to get that privilege.”
