asoh splashbg Watch The Amazing Screw On Head!Dear God, this is cool. The SciFi Channel has put the entire first episode of Mike Mignola’s THE AMAZING SCREW-ON HEAD cartoon online. We’ll let SF describe it:

In this hilarious send-up of Lovecraftian horror and steampunk adventure, President Abraham Lincoln’s top spy is a bodyless head known only as Screw-On Head.

When arch-fiend Emperor Zombie steals an artifact that will enable him to threaten all life on Earth, the task of stopping him is assigned to Screw-on Head. Fortunately, Screw-On Head is not alone on this perilous quest. He is aided by his multitalented manservant, Mr. Groin, and by his talking canine cohort, Mr. Dog.

Mignola drawing brought to thrilling animated life? You bet. Dark yet whimsical story? Check. Vocal stylings by Paul Giamatti, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon and Patton Oswalt? YES YES YES! Make sure to fill out the online survey and tell the SciFi Channel that only by airing more of THE AMAZING SCREW ON HEAD can nuclear disaster be averted for all times.

This is the best birthday ever.

That was so totally rad I pooped myself.

  2. bryant says:

It’s also written by Bryan Fuller, who created/co-created Wonderfalls and Dead Like Me, two of the more entertaining shows from the last few years.

I really, really hope this isn’t an abandoned pilot; even more than the Hellboy movie, it manages to capture the bizarrely off-kilter fun of a Mike Mignola comic.

And it’s Abraham Lincoln’s best role since Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

  3. Telio Navega says:

Great animation! Why Mignola didn´t make a tv show before? Cool, very cool.

  4. Matt M. says:

Fun overall, and the jerky, minimal animation style worked well enough with Mignola’s source material. Some laugh out loud moments and some writing that was so terribly on the nose it actually drew blood.

  5. Paul T. says:

This was wonderful! Don’t know if anyone noticed, but the colorist for the show was long-time Hellboy and BPRD colorist Dave Stewart while the props design duties were handled by BPRD penciler Guy Davis. This is the perfect treat for all Mignola fans out there. It just gets everything right. From the overall tongue in cheek style of the tone to the fantastic artwork it’s all there! Let’s just hope there’s more to come.
